Weaving lab was our final destination during these two crash course weeks. Everything we heard about during the lecture about weaving now we had a chance to see in a real life. Besides observing, we had a chance to weave a little bit by ourselves which was a lot of fun an a great way to end this journey.
We started the tour by taking a look at different weaving machines and how do they work. One of the most interesting ones was also one of the smalled ones - a "gun" that is used for making carpets, it shoots yarn into one side that when turned around makes a carpet texture.

To see how one of the machines that makes stripes as a pattern works, we chose 4 yarns with different colors (shown in the video) and saw how they are changed and what kind of the pattern does this machine make:
After that we went into a special section of the lab were we had a chance to do some hand knitting. First we were discovereing different patterns through paper tutorials and later we had 20 min to try out hand knitting machines which was a lot of fun :
Label weaving machine was one of the most interesting ones for me because I haven't seen it before, it works very fast and it cuts labels into smaller sections right after weaving them:
Last, but also very interesting part of our day was finding out how to get a woven print using a computer programme called Vamatex. We chose a picture of the school and decided on a lot of elements such as width of repeat, number of colors in weft, warp density etc. and then went to the jacquard machine and saw how it looks in a woven form:
Here is a short video that shows how all of these machines and processes looked during out small tour!
